This year’s memorial lecture is themed:
“Reflections on 49 Years Since 16 June 1976 – Lots to Celebrate or Lots of Disappointments?”

The keynote address will be delivered by Prof Pitika Ntuli, a distinguished academic, poet, sculptor, and author. In 2024, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by TUT’s Faculty of Humanities.

This powerful Youth Day event honours the legacy of Dr Sam Nzima, the legendary photojournalist who captured the iconic image of Hector Pieterson during the 1976 Soweto Uprising — a photo that changed the course of South African history.
